To TteS band members, staff, and the public:
Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc Council is aware of the recent gathering involving some individuals associated with a group linked to white supremacist and white nationalist ideology on the TteS reserve this Sunday. We recognize the concern, hurt, and uncertainty this situation has caused in our community, including concern about how information was communicated.
We sincerely apologize for the social media post and particularly, that TteS band members did not hear about this matter directly from leadership before the post was published. Leadership was not aware of the situation beforehand. Our members deserve timely, accurate information from us, and we regret that this did not occur.
We stand firmly against groups and activities that promote hate, intimidation, or division. TteS has zero tolerance for hate speech and for protests or gatherings that threaten the safety, dignity, or well-being of our members, staff, guests, or neighbours.
Today, TteS Council joined members of the RCMP, senior leadership, and executives for a photograph as a visible expression of unity and solidarity. We stand together with our members, staff, and the broader public. We will not be intimidated. We will respond with courage, care, and collective strength.
We are working with the appropriate authorities and taking all available steps to contain this situation, protect our community, and help prevent anything similar from happening again. We are also reviewing how this matter was identified, communicated, and addressed so that members receive information from leadership as promptly as possible.
Chief and Council are calling all drummers and singers to tonight’s Healing Circle at the Arbour at 5:00 pm. All are welcome, everyone is invited. Light refreshments will be provided.
Our strength comes from standing together. TteS remains committed to the safety, dignity, and well-being of everyone in our community and to the values of respect and unity. We will continue to provide verified updates as more information becomes available.
Yours truly,
Kúkwpi7 Rosanne Casimir
