Training

The Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc (TteS) Education Department is a non-profit department within the TteS organization. Our current education, trades, training and skill development programming and services are founded in Secwépemc language, culture, values, heritage and tradition.

It is the philosophical approach of this department to blend quality education programs and services and Secwépemc culture and language. Our mandate is to consistently develop, deliver and advocate for innovative programs and services to better equip our membership for self-sufficiency and better quality of life by promoting positive educational, training, cultural, linguistic and employment experiences.

Our trades and training program provide our membership with the opportunity to acquire practical training and employment skills with the objective of increasing participation in the labour market and providing employers with skilled workers. Our members may access services which include:

  • Skill development
  • Training for high-demand jobs
  • Supports and services for those with barriers to employment
  • Employment services, including assisting with work placements

January – March 2024 | Tech Training

Time to get Tech Savvy!! FREE Computer Training coming this Winter 2024. Programs include: Elder Computer and Mobile Device (cell) Training in early January 2024. January 2 – March 29, 2024 | Mechanical Sampler Program

Tk̓emlúps is launching a 13-week Mechanical Trade Sampler program in January. This program covers math upgrading, and introduces Welding, Auto Mechanics, and Millwright, while also providing work safety certificates. This program will start the beginning of January and includes a one week work practicum for those wanting to go directly into the workforce. Band members could be eligible for a monthly student stipend. This is an amazing program to introduce you to the trades and prepare you for an upcoming foundations trades program towards an apprenticeship.

September 2023 – April 2024 | Indigenous Health Nursing: Approaches to Wellness

This online course from September 2023 to April 2024, led by Dr. Lisa Bourque Bearskin. Students engage with Indigenous healers and professionals, using Indigenous Research Methodologies to explore Indigenous knowledge, history, and wellness. The course examines how Indigenous Knowledges impact wellness practices and healthcare access. Students gain holistic healing insights, guided by intergenerational mentorship, to shape their role as nurse researchers for Indigenous Populations. Part of the Indigenous Wellness Nursing specialty education stream.
