Natural Resources

The Natural Resources (NR) department is dedicated to overseeing the land and advocating for the protection and sustainable management of both cultural heritage and natural resources within Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc traditional territory. The NR department is committed to reconnecting community members with the land, collaborating with other departments to address the needs and wants of the community, advancing Indigenous rights and title, and stewarding resources on the land.

Work of the NR department includes:

  • Ensuring resource protection (i.e., wildlife, range, water, fisheries, etc.)
  • Expanding cultural camps with ties to the seasonal rounds and culturally important areas
  • Prioritizing membership access to traditional foods
  • Engaging in consultation and accommodation activities
  • Territorial patrols to monitor the land
  • Developing policies and management strategies that support the responsible land management
