Apr 24 | Land Code

Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc band members are invited to attend an important Land Code Survey Meeting.

Date: Thursday, April 24, 2025
Time: 4:30 PM
Location: CLC Assembly Hall
Dinner will be served

This is an in-person meeting only. Future virtual meetings will be scheduled.

As a step towards a Land Code Vote, several surveys will be conducted to accurately map and define the natural boundaries of our Reserves. A Canada Lands Surveyor will be present to explain the process and proposed timing of these surveys and answer any questions you may have.

All band members are encouraged to attend and take part in this important step in shaping how we manage our lands.

Why Should I Attend Land Code Meetings?

Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc is exploring the path to becoming a Land Code Nation—an important step that would give our community full control over our own land and resources. Instead of needing federal approval for land-related decisions, we would have the authority to govern and manage our land according to our own laws and priorities.

This shift is about more than just governance—it’s about self-determination. A Land Code, drafted and approved by our community, would become the foundational land law for Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc. Once in effect, it would remove approximately 44 sections of the Indian Act that currently restrict our ability to make decisions about our land. This means that Canada would no longer have control over our land-related matters—we would.

Ahead of the membership vote on this critical decision, we are holding a series of meetings, engagements, and open houses to ensure every member has the opportunity to ask questions, share thoughts, and understand what this means for our future. Your voice and participation are essential.
