May 14 | Be More than a Bystander

Be More Than A Bystander (BMTAB) is set to unfold at the Chief Louis Assembly Hall on Tuesday, May 14 from 5pm – 7:30pm, exclusively for TteS Band Members. This comprehensive training and education initiative aim to foster organizational and cultural transformations, promoting welcoming, healthy, safe, and respectful workplaces.

Delving into practical aspects, the program equips participants with tools and strategies to effectively intervene and break the cycles of bullying, harassment, and violence within workplaces and communities. The featured speaker is none other than former BC Lion, JR LaRose. JR not only strives for success on the field but also champions causes off it. His commitment to his Native heritage and fellow Aboriginal people fuels his speaking tour, breaking down racial and generational barriers.

JR’s story of redemption, universal in its appeal, transcends racial and generational lines, offering a beacon of hope and humanity. Recognized as a community leader by his team, JR has received the Jamie Taras award for Community Service for four consecutive years. His nominations for the Canadian Football League’s Tom Pate award attest to his outstanding sportsmanship, team contribution, community service, and association contribution.

As a spokesperson for BC’s Be More Than A Bystander campaign, JR, alongside other speakers, travels to raise awareness and educate youth about violence against women. Beyond the football field, JR’s determination not to let a dark past overshadow a bright future has inspired thousands, with hopes to inspire thousands more. Emphasizing the theme of redemption, JR remarks, “Regardless of our past, we all have an opportunity to redeem ourselves.” His goal is to inspire others on their own journeys of redemption through the compelling narrative of his life.
